Covered bridges are an interesting part of history.  They were built of wood because that was the building material

available.  They were covered, not to protect those who crossed, but to protect the wooden structure from the elements.

A bridge could last up to 40 years longer as a covered bridge rather than an uncovered one.  There are many architectural

styles of covered bridges.  A few types are King Post, Queen Post, Lattice, Burr Arch, etc.
